Susan Holden was honored by Minnesota Lawyer for Outstanding Service to the state's legal profession. As recipient of the "Outstanding Service to the Profession" award, Susan was recognized for her years of work on behalf of the state bar, the courts, disaster victims, as well as her career as a litigator.
Blaine resident recognized for service to state's legal profession
Susan Holden of Blaine is a recipient of the Outstanding Service to the Profession Award, an honor from the newspaper "Minnesota Lawyer."
Holden received the award at a dinner celebration at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis on Feb. 24.
"It's a great honor," she told Sun Focus. "It's nice to be recognized for doing things for the profession and the bar that you really enjoy and care deeply about."
Holden, who has been with the Sieben, Grose, Von Holtum & Carey law firm since 1984, was given the award for her long record of dedication and service to her job.
Throughout the years, Holden has volunteered for bar associations, including serving as president of the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) from 2005 to 2006.
Holden was later appointed to chair the Special Master Panel that administers compensation to survivors of the 35W bridge collapse.
"It has been a major focus of my work the past six months," she said.
Holden also played a key role in the MSBA's relief effort for Hurricane Katrina victims. Holden told Sun Focus more than $425,000 and five truckloads of office furniture was collected to help Gulf Coast legal services providers and lawyers.
Hurricane victims were also given free legal advice that related to FEMA applications, mortgage foreclosures, bankruptcy issues and insurance benefit issues, Holden said.
"The Minnesota State Bar Association did more than any state bar in support of the Gulf Coast," she said. "We're pretty proud of it."
In 2005 "Minnesota Lawyer" selected Holden as one of 15 Attorneys of the Year, and she was one of 25 women recognized by "The Business Journal" as a woman to watch in Minnesota's business community.
