Alum, student receive awards from the MSBA

Susan Holden '88, new President of the Minnesota State Bar Association

Susan Holden, a 1988 graduate of William Mitchell College of Law, recently began a year-long term as president of the Minnesota State Bar Association. She is one of only three women to lead the MSBA

A partner at the law firm of Sieben, Grose, Von Holtum & Carey, Holden has had a distinguished career marked by numerous accomplishments and awards. She is a past president of the Hennepin County Bar Association. She serves on the board of governors for the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association and the advisory board of Minnesota Women Lawyers. She was appointed to a four-year term by the Minnesota Supreme Court to the Commission on Judicial Selection and currently serves on the Minnesota Supreme Court legislative strategy team. In addition, she has chaired the government relations committee of the Hennepin County Bar Association and the MSBA legislative committee.

When Holden graduated from William Mitchell, she was one of few women who specialized in litigation. The trial experience and courtroom proficiency she gained in her career earned her certification as a Civil Trial Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association, a distinction held by fewer than one percent of women lawyers in Minnesota. She currently practices in the areas of personal injury, product liability, dram shop liability, and auto accident/insurance litigation.

In the next year, Holden has identified a number of key initiatives for the MSBA, including concentrating on public service, increasing diversity in the legal profession, and reaching out to members outside of the Twin Cities metro area.
