Susan M. Holden - Verdicts & Settlements
Drunken Cowboy Causes Brain Injury - $445,000 settlement
Three cowboys rode their horses to a southern Minnesota bar where they consumed alcohol throughout the evening. After dark, when they left the bar one horse broke free from its handler and was chased by one of the cowboys onto a rural highway and into the path of our client's car. The horse was struck by the vehicle and thrown into the windshield, causing our client to suffer a brain injury and multiple facial fractures. Susan Holden settled the case just prior to trial.
Young Man Dies Trying To Stop Friend - Judgment $1,000,000 & confidential settlement
Our clients' 18-year-old son was leaning on the driver's side door of his 20-year-old friend's pick-up truck outside a bar where they had been drinking. The 18 year old was trying to convince his friend not to drive because he was drunk. However, the friend drove ahead, knocked down the 18-year-old and ran over his head, causing fatal injuries. Claims were brought against the bar where the young men were illegally served alcohol as well as against the uninsured driver, and against other available automobile insurance coverage for the surviving family members. Susan Holden obtained a judgment against the driver for $1,000,000, and settled the claims against the bar on a confidential basis before trial.
