Susan M. Holden - Verdicts & Settlements
Auto collision, inability to work as nurse - $320,000 settlement
This case involved a 50 year old nurse who was rear ended at a stop light on her way home from work. As a result of the collision, she suffered back injuries that required surgical repair with multi-level low back fusion. She had a complicated recovery, spent several months in a body brace and was permanently disabled from certain activities including heavy lifting often required of work in the nursing field. She was unable to resume her nursing duties due to the heavy lifting requirements and lost her job. By the time of settlement, she was working at a nursing home that did not require heavy lifting consistent with her restrictions recommended by her physician. Susan Holden obtained a settlement in excess of $320,000 for this nurse before trial.
Woman slips in puddle & injures back - Settlement confidential
A 49 year old woman fell at a retail store and suffered back injuries that necessitated surgery on her low back. Our client had undergone three prior fusion surgeries to her low back before this incident. She was recovering from the third surgery when she fell at the store and aggravated the healing fusion. She lost 15 months of work, incurred substantial medical treatment expenses for a fourth surgery, and suffered permanent disability which her treating surgeon related to the aggravation of her prior condition caused in this incident.
The liability case revolved around the retail store’s knowledge of and lack of maintenance on a leaking rooftop air-conditioning unit that was leaking water into the store. The leaking AC unit caused a large puddle of water to accumulate on the tile floor of the store and directly caused our client to slip and fall. Susan Holden settled the claim for her client on a confidential basis before trial.
