Jeffrey M. Montpetit Verdicts & Settlements

Wisconsin Cases

Man badly burned by exploding paint cans tossed in a fire, $87,500 settlement

Our client was at a friend’s house. His friend was burning trash. He threw something in the fire, unknown to our client at the time, that later caused an explosion of flames. Subsequently, due to the purple paint on our client’s body and clothing, he came to the conclusion that paint cans had been placed in the fire, which had exploded and caused our client’s injuries

Immediately following the incident, our client sought treatment at the emergency room of the Amery Regional Medical Center in Wisconsin. He arrived at the emergency room with no shorts, as he had to rip them to prevent the fire from escalading to other parts of his body, purple paint splattered all over his body, burning on both hands, shoulders, and ankles and on his face, abdomen, and right foot and toes.

It was decided that he be transferred to the Burn Center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota by ambulance. Our client was diagnosed with First and Second Degree burns on his face, shoulders, right hand, and legs. He was treated at the Burn Rehab Therapy Center and underwent painful burn debridement and cleaning.

Jeff Montpetit settled this claim for pain, suffering, permanent injuries and scaring for $87,500.
