Minnesota State Bar Association Elects Susan M. Holden President

Minneapolis, MN – The Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) has elected Susan M. Holden, an attorney with Sieben, Grose, Von Holtum & Carey, Ltd., as its next president. Her term will run from July 1, 2005, to June 30, 2006.

Holden has a strong history of serving the legal community in addition to representing clients in her private practice as a personal injury trial attorney. Holden served as President of the Hennepin County Bar Association from 1999-2000 and currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Minneapolis Trial Lawyers and the Advisory Board for the Minneapolis Women Lawyers. In 1995, the Minnesota Supreme Court appointed her to the Commission on Judicial Selection where she served a four-year term.

“The opportunity to serve as president of this far-reaching association gives me pleasure in knowing we can make a difference at many levels in the legal community…both to our fellow attorneys and the clients we serve. It’s an honor to be elected as President of the 2006 State Bar Association and represent the needs of the Minnesota community,” said Holden.

Holden’s previous experience as chair of the MSBA Legislative Committee and the Government Relations Committee of the Hennepin County Bar Association Team will prove useful since one of her new duties as president will be to appoint committee members to serve as the Legislative Committee of the Assembly.

Holden also has earned accolades and credentials in her legal practice. Her courtroom proficiency and trial experience earned her certification as a Civil Trial Specialist by the MSBA. This distinction is achieved by less than 1 percent of women lawyers in Minnesota. Martindale-Hubbell, the most respected legal directory in the legal community, gave Holden its highest AV Rating on professional skills and ethics. This designation is based on extensive, confidential review conducted among attorneys and judges in Minnesota. She has also been selected as a Leading American Attorney and Super Lawyer (a designation selected among the top 40 personal injury Super Lawyers in Minnesota and the top 50 women Super Lawyers in Minnesota).

Holden graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in political science from St. Cloud State University in 1984, and completed her J.D. cum laude at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul four years later. She is admitted to the Minnesota, State and Federal Bars. Holden is a frequent author and lecturer on such topics as trial practice law, substantive law and ethical leadership in the profession. She concentrates her practice in product liability, dram shop liability, wrongful death and auto accident/insurance litigation.
