Independent Medical Exams – Is There a Problem?
If you ever get involved in a car accident injury claim you may be asked by an insurance company to attend a "independent medical exam." This will be an exam scheduled by an insurance company with a doctor of their choice. Many times these doctors do hundreds of these types of exams for the insurance companies at a substantial cost.
In 2009, the New York Times ran an article on these types of exams. The article examines the mistrust between the injured party and their insurer. They point out some situations where the doctor unfortunately misrepresented the actual nature of the injured parties disability to the detriment of the involved party.
