The “work-life balance” for a Reservist or National Guard member working at a busy personal injury law firm can be anything but balanced without the support of her co-workers.
Airman First Class Lindsey Lasky, an Air Force JAG Paralegal with the Air National Guard 148th Fighter Wing, knows this first-hand and is thankful for the support she’s received. Lasky nominated SiebenCarey for this award for exemplary support of its employees who serve in the Guard or Reserve.
Minnesota’s Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve—a division of the Department of Defense—recently announced that SiebenCarey will be honored with the Above and Beyond Award.
“I have been with SiebenCarey for over fourteen years. When I decided to enlist as a JAG Paralegal with the 148th Fighter Wing, the support and encouragement I received from the entire firm was overwhelming. As military duties arise, my schedule is obviously disrupted here, and my administration and fellow co-workers have been nothing but understanding and supportive,” Lasky said. “I’m very happy to learn that SiebenCarey will be receiving an award for its continued support of military employees like myself.”
SiebenCarey President Jim Carey will accept the award on behalf of the law firm and will be accompanied by Lindsey Lasky, General Harry Sieben, an attorney at SiebenCarey and a Major General in the Minnesota National Guard and Cheryl Johnson, the law firm's administrator.
The award is given to companies and institutions that go above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act by providing their Guard and Reserve employees additional, non-mandated benefits such as differential or full pay to offset lost wages, extended health benefits and other similar benefits.
“It’s an honor to be able to support Lindsey in her service to our country,” said Carey. “My congratulations to Lindsey and the rest of the firm members for helping us assist and support military members in need. Our law firm takes an active role in supporting the military and those in active duty armed services. In particular, we are very active in the Minnesota Military Family Foundation which helps and supports veterans and their families who are in need.”
SiebenCarey will be presented the Above and Beyond award during the Minnesota Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Annual Employer Awards Banquet on May 8 in Bloomington, MN.
Cheryl Johnson, the law firm administrator, will also be individually recognized and presented the Patriot Award. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
“Knowing my employer not only supports but values what I do as a member of the Air National Guard means a great deal to me,” Lasky said. “I’m proud to serve my country and SiebenCarey, and grateful to be able to do both at the same time.”
