Our client, coming to work, parked in the parking ramp on level B and was carrying x-rays and an adding machine that had the paper roll on it. She approached the elevator, pushed the button, the elevator got to the B level and the doors opened. She didn't hear any noises or sounds that were out of the ordinary that indicated the elevator was malfunctioning. There was no one around her and when the doors opened there was no one inside the elevator. Since her arms were full, all she saw were the walls of the elevator and stepped in. The elevator had stopped approximately 8 inches lower than floor level and when she stepped in, she fell and in the process, twisted her back to the right. Harry Sieben filed suit against the entities responsible for maintaining the elevator and obtained a settlement for our client in the amount of $117,500.
