Girl Killed By Unsecured Pipe, Jury Awards Family $495,000

Settlement/Verdict: $495,000.00

Attorney: Jeffrey M. Montpetit
Practice Area: Wrongful Death
Client Injury: Death

A teenage girl was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her mother. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Highway 13 in the city of Shakopee, Minnesota, when it was rear-ended by another vehicle. The impact forced the mother and daughter into the southbound lane where it was struck again by a well-drilling truck transporting metal well drilling pipes. Seven or eight pipes extended above and beyond the forward plate of the trough and were secured with only a piece of electrical wire. One of the pipes struck the teenage girl through the windshield and killed her. Harry Sieben and Jeffrey Montpetit took the case to trial and won an award for her family of $495,000.
