Susan Holden Receives HCBA Professionalism Award

Susan M. Holden - SiebenCarey "Know Your Rights" AttorneyMay 30, 2016

SiebenCarey is proud to announce Susan Holden will be honored with the 2016 Professionalism Award by the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA). HCBA Professionalism Awards are presented to “members of the bench and bar who best exemplify the pursuit of the practice of law as a profession, including a spirit of public service and promotion of the highest possible level of competence, integrity and ethical conduct.” The awards are presented by the HCBA’s Professionalism and Ethics Committee in the belief that “professionalism fosters respect and trust between lawyers, the judiciary and the public, serves the best interest of clients, promotes the efficient resolution of disputes and improves the administration of justice.”

Two stalwarts of the profession—Susan M. Holden (SiebenCarey) and Chief Judge Peter A. Cahill (Fourth Judicial District)—will be recognized by the association at its annual meeting on June 1 with the 2016 Professionalism Awards.

Susan Holden has had a long and distinguished career as a partner at SiebenCarey, where she is a partner and shareholder. Susan has earned a reputation as a hard-working and talented trial lawyer. Since 1995 she has been certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association, a distinction achieved by less than one percent of women lawyers in Minnesota. She is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, an elite organization of accomplished trial attorneys whose qualifications require demonstrated significant courtroom skill and experience, high personal character, and an honorable ethical reputation.

In addition to her successful trial practice, in 2008 Susan was appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice to chair the Special Master Panel in the specially created compensation process for survivors of the I-35W bridge collapse. Her responsibilities included designing and implementing a claims process, completing hearings and damages determinations in 179 claims, and deciding a fair distribution of the $36.64 million appropriated by the legislature to compensate survivors of that disaster.

Holden is a past president of both the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) and the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA). She is a recipient of the MSBA’s Professional Excellence Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the Bar and the profession.
