Focused, compassionate, and committed to client advocacy.

“I wanted to see tangible results from my legal work, like helping a grieving family or securing compensation for someone who deserves it. Family is hugely important to me, and this area of law lets me fight for clients while still being there for the people I love.”

Nick Downes is a law clerk at SiebenCarey and a current student at the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where he ranks in the top 10% of his class and is on track to graduate magna cum laude. He has earned Dean’s Awards in both Torts and Lawyering Skills II, recognizing him as the top-performing student in each course. With substantial academic achievements and hands-on litigation experience, Nick brings a thoughtful, people-centered approach to helping injured Minnesotans navigate the legal system.

Nick was inspired to pursue plaintiff-side work after interning with a large corporate defense firm, where he developed a passion for representing individuals rather than corporations. At SiebenCarey, he has supported litigation teams on a range of personal injury matters involving motor vehicle collisions, workplace injuries, medical malpractice, and other complex claims.

He participated in the ABA Moot Court Competition and remains active in law journal and community volunteer work, including ongoing involvement with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). His passion for meaningful client service is shaped not only by his academic training but also by the example he observed growing up—the impact his father, a partner at SiebenCarey, had on clients who entrusted him with their stories and struggles.

Nick approaches personal injury law with empathy shaped by growing up as the youngest of four children and his belief in meeting people where they are. He is energized by building relationships, connecting with clients, and helping guide them through difficult circumstances with clarity and compassion.

Upon completing his J.D degree from St. Thomas School of Law and passing the Minnesota Bar in 2026, Nick looks forward to continuing his career at SiebenCarey as an associate attorney, where he plans to build his own caseload and continue fighting for the “little guy”—a role he playfully attributes to his experience as the youngest child.
