Rosemary’s Story – "A group of people who change the way you see the world."
After being rear-ended in Wisconsin, Rosemary faced not just a back injury but a cancer diagnosis, financial devastation, and full-time caregiving for her husband with dementia. With Matt Steinbrink and his team at SiebenCarey, she finally had someone to help carry the weight.
In April 2022, I was driving home from a much-needed weekend with my sister in Illinois. Life had been overwhelming. My husband had early-onset dementia, and I’d just placed him in a nursing home after caring for him for nearly 20 years. I was working full-time, helping my 98-year-old mom, managing massive debt, and trying to hold my family together.
I was sitting in stopped traffic on I-90 in Wisconsin when I was hit hard from behind. I swerved, trying to avoid the car in front of me, but another car slammed into that one and sent it into me. Later, I learned that two of my vertebrae collapsed when the seat in my car dropped from the impact.
A few days later, my chiropractor, Angela, insisted I get X-rays. That’s when we discovered something even more serious: I had multiple myeloma — an aggressive blood cancer that, without the accident, might not have been caught in time.
Angela gave me Matt Steinbrink’s name and said, “You need to call him.” I resisted at first because I’m not the type to sue. But I couldn’t even stand upright. I knew I needed help.
From the moment I called, Matt and his team at SiebenCarey made everything simple. I didn’t even need to leave my house; they came to me. And once they took my case, it was a weight off my shoulders. With everything else going on, including back surgery, a stem cell transplant, and my son falling critically ill with COVID, I truly didn’t have the bandwidth to deal with a lawsuit. And I didn’t have to. They handled it all.
When Matt told me what the settlement could be, I was stunned. I thought maybe they’d fight for $25,000. The final settlement was enough to cover almost the exact amount of damage my husband’s illness had done to our finances. It felt like divine intervention.
Matt never backed down, even when one of the insurance companies was completely unreasonable. He stood up for me through depositions, mediation, and beyond. And more than that, he listened, he cared, and he never made me feel like I was just another case.
I’ve told so many people since: if you’re lucky, once in your life, you meet a group of people who change the way you see the world. For me, that was Matt and his team at SiebenCarey. They gave me back something I didn’t realize I’d lost: peace of mind.
I’m still working full-time and caring for my husband, but I’m finally thriving, not just surviving. And I’ll never forget what Matt did to help me get here.
