Future Associates John Gauger and Nick Downes to Join SiebenCarey

SiebenCarey is proud to announce that law students John Gauger and Nick Downes will join the firm as associate attorneys following their anticipated admission to the Minnesota Bar in 2026.
Both Gauger and Downes are completing their J.D. degrees: Gauger at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and Downes at the University of St. Thomas School of Law, and will graduate in 2026. Each has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the firm’s mission of protecting the rights of injured Minnesotans and their families.
“John and Nick exemplify the next generation of SiebenCarey attorneys,” said Jim Carey, Managing Partner. “They bring energy, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose to everything they do. Those are qualities that align perfectly with our firm’s values and our commitment to serving clients with compassion and excellence.”
Gauger joined SiebenCarey in 2022 as a paralegal before entering law school, where he ranks among the top of his class. He has contributed to numerous complex cases resulting in more than $18 million in verdicts and settlements, including the landmark Davis case involving the wrongful death of a St. Paul construction worker. He serves as president of the school’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Society and has been the recipient of the Burton Award and CALI Award for legal writing and research.
Downes was inspired to join SiebenCarey as a law clerk after interning with a large defense firm, where he developed a passion for representing individuals rather than corporations. Also ranked in the top 10% of his law school class, he is on track to graduate magna cum laude and has earned Dean’s Awards in both Torts and Lawyering Skills II. Downes has supported litigation teams on a range of personal injury matters and is active in moot court, law journal, and community volunteer initiatives, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
“John and Nick’s skill and professionalism have already made a difference for our clients, and we’re confident they’ll continue to strengthen our practice for years to come,” Carey added.
