Lettuce-related E.coli Outbreak Causes Two Deaths in MN
Romaine lettuce grown in Yuma, Arizona, has been linked to an outbreak of E. coli food poisoning that has sickened at least 197 people in 35 states and killed five people, including two in Minnesota. This is the nation’s largest E. coli outbreak in over a decade, according to health officials.The growing season there ended six weeks ago, and it’s unlikely any tainted lettuce is still in stores or people’s homes given its short shelf life. But there can be a lag in reporting, and accounts of illnesses have continued to come in. The first illnesses occurred in March, and the most recent were reported on May 12, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many of the victims ate at Panera Bread, Papa Murphy’s, and other restaurants.
